Research & Methodology
A safety tool is only as trustworthy as the methodology it is built on — and the discipline with which that methodology is maintained.
SDIA™ is built on the Lead to Inspire™ Behaviour Observation Methodology and a six-dimension model of decision-making intelligence. Every assessment, climate survey and observation programme runs on versioned, reviewable methodology — with translation validation, technical review and triangulated evidence — so the conclusions leaders act on are defensible.
Methodology, not opinion
Safety tools that rest on borrowed frameworks and undocumented scoring produce confident-looking reports with no defensible basis. When a board asks why a leader scored the way they did, or why a climate dimension moved, the answer must come from a documented, versioned methodology — not from the model's best guess.
SDIA™ is built the other way around. The behaviour library, the six-dimension model, the EDI classification, the climate scoring engine and the OSDM™ maturity calculation are each defined, versioned and reviewable. Translations go through back-translation and technical review. Findings from one module are triangulated against another. The methodology is the product; the platform is its instrument.
Methodological pillars
The four foundations that define how SDIA™ produces evidence.
Lead to Inspire™ Behaviour Observation Methodology
A structured approach to safety behaviour observation that treats the worker as the expert on the barriers they face, classifies at-risk behaviour by how hard it was to do safely, and converts Impossible barriers into owned system actions.
Six Intelligence Dimensions
Decision-making intelligence modelled as six interdependent dimensions rather than a single score — recognising that leadership under operational pressure is a profile of strengths and gaps, not a number.
Easy / Difficult / Impossible classification
The EDI taxonomy that separates individual choice from system design — ensuring observation data points leadership at the decisions only they can make.
Organisational Safety Decision Maturity (OSDM™)
A composite maturity score combining individual assessment, climate and behavioural data into one comparable, year-on-year measure of organisational progress.
Quality standards
How the methodology stays trustworthy across languages, organisations and years.
Translation validation
Multilingual delivery with back-translation, technical review and approval workflow — not machine translation of English master text.
Anonymous participation
Climate survey responses are anonymised by design and never linked to identities, with minimum response thresholds to protect small groups.
No Name / No Blame
Observations record what happened, never who did it. The purpose is system learning, not individual judgement.
Versioned methodology
Every behaviour, question, scoring engine and report template carries a version, so historical results remain interpretable as methods evolve.
From design to defensible evidence
Designed
The model is designed against recognised safety science, human factors and leadership decision research — not assembled from popular frameworks.
Validated
Question wording and scoring are reviewed through technical review and pilot testing before publication, with translation approval per language.
Triangulated
Findings from one method are tested against another — climate against observation, assessment against incident data — so conclusions are corroborated, not assumed.
Versioned
Methodology, behaviour library, scoring and report templates are versioned and reviewable, preserving the interpretability of historical results.
